The world population has grown exponentially since the 200AD. From minimal numbers back then to several billion currently. The rise of industrial production and farming (not to mention the technology of the modern world). In 1800, it took a billion people to hit the whole of their history. Then it only took two hundred years to get us where we are now at 7.7 billion.
World growth in population is growing. In the early 20th century, the world population was only 1.65 billion. In 1970, the world had about half as many people as it is today. Thankfully, these trends are slowing down tremendously, and the Malthusian horror that had people talk about it 20years ago will not reoccur. However, before the end of this century, we are headed to hit 10 billion people
However, the most jarring thing is not the numbers in the world currently. Significant concerns are placed on the ability of the earth to feed and sustain current world populations. With the increasing number of people, the United Nations projects that by 2050, the available land for food production might not be sufficient. There would be a raised demand for food by 70% with only 5% more arable land will have increased to increase food production to cater for this growth, and it is not enough to segregate farmland and plant more crops. The matter of efficiency might come into focus. For instance, in the United States, food production has doubled between 1948 to 2015 despite the shrinking of farming land from 7million farms to 2million farms. USA majors on generating quality crop breeds effectively to cater to the rising population. Food production is maximized over the minimal farming land.
Despite this, to cater for such a significant increase of people, there is a need to turn all crop production into industrial endeavors. This is a huge feat considering that a majority of farmers are small-scale farmers, with industrialized establishments being a fifteenth of the total number. To sort the rising population, small-scale farmers and establishments are required to upgrade to better, more efficient producing farming methods.
