The world of energy looks a little bit these days to the political : the image of the reshuffle, where the candidates for a ministry to grow to the pass, most of the actors of the energy, EDF Engie passing by professionals in the solar and wind power, are trying to assert their strengths. At the end of the month, the government will unveil in fact the multi-annual Programming of energy (EPP), a document that will provide the priorities, energy by energy, until 2028. Each defends its color. The wind comes from the to do, survey, support. Its results are pretty amazing. According to a survey (*), 73 % of French people have a “good image” of wind energy, a ratio that rises to 80 % for the residents living in a radius of 5 kilometres of a wind turbine. Conversely, 9 % of the neighbors to a project said they were opposed to wind turbines, but half of these “anti” have changed his mind once the blades have started spinning.

We can probably gloss over the fact that the subsidies that accompany the installation of wind turbines soften the opponents, or that the French love these great poles as long as they are not under their nose, it does : this result contradicts the impression that the French reject the wind farm. “There is no problem of acceptability. The wind, it is the choice of reason, he is acclaimed by the French, ” says Olivier Perot, the president of France Wind Energy. A few days of the revelation of the EPP, the main professional organisation of the sector ahead of other advantages : its competitiveness (wind-produced electricity at € 65 per MW/h, depending on the FEE a energy half less expensive than nuclear), its ability to create jobs (17 100 in all, including more than 1,000 in 2017), the mastery of the manufacturing cycle (read : more than nuclear, which is going to get older), and obviously his respect for the environment.

Increase of the share of nuclear power

This is why the FEE was proposed, in the framework of the EPP, to set an ambitious target : to go from 15 GW installed today to 37 GW in 2028. An effort that would accelerate the pace of implementation of wind turbines (1.7 GW per year today to 2 GW). The wind farm off-shore, that is to say, in the sea, is expected to reach a capacity of 8 to 10 GW in 2028, thanks to six projects off the coasts of france confirmed that there was little by the State.

The professionals of the wind would understand the evil that the government does not favour this energy. “In France, we made the choice to be a leader in certain technologies,” explains Pauline Le Bertre, general delegate of the association, in reference to the nuclear industry. We could do with ours. “The EPP should therefore mark, according to its president,” a strategic shift ” in favour of wind energy and other renewable energies, such as solar. “It is a time of choice,” observes Pauline Le Bertre. Either the government is developing renewable energy, we will do what has always been done [in favour of nuclear power, editor’s NOTE]. “

The trouble is that the experts of the Ipcc do not understand exactly from that ear. In the report they recently published, they estimate that the share of nuclear power in the world must significantly increase to keep the increase of the globe temperature to + 1.5 degree at maximum. But the share of nuclear in the energy mix French is already very high (nearly 75 %). It could therefore be lowered to the favor of wind and solar. All that we know now : the French seem to be mostly in favour of the wind.

Survey “residents” conducted by telephone from September 24 to October 2, with a sample of 1,001 people living near a wind turbine (less than 5 km) according to the method of quotas.
